Petrified Wood from Arizona

$95.00

This polished slab of Arizona Petrified Wood is an early conifer of the Species Araucarioxylon arizonicum which lived during the Triassic Period, 200 million years ago in what is now the Chinle Formation, Arizona. This is a beautiful cross-sectional slice of an ancient conifer tree that has been polished to reveal the exquisite wood grain and structure of the original tree. The various colors occur naturally as a result of the inclusion of various trace minerals.

Petrified wood is the name given to wood that has been slowly turned into stone (fossilized) through the process of permineralization in which all of the organic matter becomes replaced by silica minerals, while much of the original structure such as the wood grain and tree rings is retained.

Size: 7” by 7.5” by 0.5”, Weight: 3 lbs
